Langholm Cricket Club 1st XI v Staffield on Sat 24 Jul 2021 at 14:00
Langholm Cricket Club Lost by 8 wickets

Match report Langholm slumped to their second defeat in a row as they were soundly defeated by Staffield. Langholm did well to post 86 as they were 15 for 4, but this was never going to be enough as Staffield knocked the runs off for just the loss of two wickets.

The Langholm skipper Graham Park won the toss and elected to bat, four balls later he was regretting this as rising ball off Tuer found his edge and he was dismissed for a duck. This got worse as Tony Steele was clean bowled by Tuer also without troubling the scorer's to leave Langholm 4 for 2. Stuart Duggan had made 10 when Tuer claimed his third wicket clean bowling him with the score on 15. Nick P fell with the score still on 15 as he was caught for 5 off Bamber. This brought Chris Stewart into join Ross Rae. With a wee bit off luck and some crisp hitting especially from Rae the score began to recover. Drinks were taken at 15 overs with Langholm 52 for 4, a vast improvement. Unfortunately a superb catch in the slips saw the end of Rae for 28 with the score on 57 for 5, Stewart soon fell for 9 and the collapse started again. Davie Gordon fell for 3 bowled by Thomlinson soon followed by Jay Gordon for 2 caught off Thomlinson. A patient 0 ended for John Bell when crisply drove Thomlinson straight to Bamber at silly point who somehow pulled off one of the best catches ever seen at the Castleholm. This left Langholm 65 for 9, Hughie Donaldson joined Steven Johnstone and with some nice shots and stout defense the pair survived for 10 overs adding 21, it was the returning Tuer who wrapped up the innings trapping Hughie LBW for 14 with Johnstone not out on 8. Langholm's total of 86 all out was nowhere enough but it could have been so much worse if not for Rae and Stewart's partnership of 42 and Johnstone and Donaldson adding 21 for the last wicket.

Langholm needed early wickets but alas these failed to come as Bamber and Armstrong added 47 for the first wicket. It was the skipper Park who broke the partnership as he took a good caught and bowled dismissing Armstrong for 20, he then in his next over had Bamber caught by Rae for 23 leaving Staffield 48 for 2. Unfortunately no more wickets fell as the visitors passed the target in the 23 over. Park was the only wicket taker and his figures were 2 for 21.

Hopefully on Wednesday night they can get things back on track with a win over Longtown before their week off.
