Carleton v Langholm Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 10 Jul 2021 at 14:00
Langholm Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets

Match report Langholm produced their most comprehensive display of the year defeating Carleton by 9 wickets at the Parklands. Carleton were bowled out for 62 with Stevie Johnstone taking 4 wickets and Dave Steele 3. In reply Langholm cruised to victory in less than 14 overs with Stuart Duggan making 31 not out.

The Langholm skipper Graham Park won the toss and elected to bat. Almost right away this looked a wise decision as Carleton lost their skipper Smith in the first over when Hughie Donaldson took a good tumbling catch off Stevie Johnstone. Donaldson repeated the feat this time staying on his feet as Litherland lobbed him a catch of Dave Steele. This left Carleton 0 for 2. Things did not get much better next over when Johnstone trapped Reay LBW for 0, leaving them 1 for 3. Tickner and Smith mounted a fight back of sorts but with the score on 22, a half hearted LB shout by Steele saw much to every ones surprise Tickner given out for 9. Smith and L.Field edged the score up to 34 before Smith played on to Johnstone for 11 then Nicky P took and easy catch of Field for 10 leaving the home side 34 for 6. Johnstone claimed his fourth wicket by clean bowling W.Field for 4, with the score on 40 for 7. Cunneen and Campbell dug in and added 21 before a superb one handed catch in the slips by skipper Park off Ryan Johnstone got rid of Campbell for 4, then with the score still on 61, Donaldson took his third catch to dismiss Cunneen for 17 off Ryan Johnstone. The end of the innings soon came when Tony Steele clean bowled Bowman for 0, leaving Carleton all out for 62. in the bowling Stevie Johnstone took 4 for 19, Dave Steele 3 for 18, Ryan Johnstone 2 for 6 and Tony Steele 1 for 13. A tremendous display by Langholm in the field holding all their catches, special mention to Hughie Donaldson with 3.

After a let off second ball when Graham Park mistimed a pull short and just clearing the fielder the result never looked in doubt as Park and Stuart Duggan added 50 runs for the first wicket. Park was the man to fall as he lobbed a catch to Smith of Cunneen for 24. The end soon came as Nicky P crashed a huge six into the pond. Duggan was undefeated on 31 and Nicky made 10 as Langholm finished on 66 for 1.

Lets hope they carry this form into next week as they take on the undefeated Wetherall on the Castleholm.
