Langholm Cricket Club Won by 30 runs

Match report Langholm continued a 3 game winning streak beating Wigton by 3 wickets with great contributions with bat and ball from both Steele brothers.

With stand in skipper Nicky P winning the toss and opting to bat, Langholm started well despite the loss of Stu Duggan for 3, Gregor Park and Tony Steele brought the score to 74 before Park fell for 32 chopping on the bowling of Thomlinson. Nicky P fell shortly after well caught off Dixon for no score. Dave Steele joined his brother at the crease and they added 30 before Dave was stumped off the bowling of McGuinness for 12. The returning Duncan Elliott soon followed bowled off Thomlinson for 2 the score now 116-5. John Bell was the next to go for 2 with Tony Steele keeping the scoreboard ticking. It took a very sharp boundary catch to remove Steele for a brilliant 77. James Stevens and Stevie Johnstone added a few and Langholm finished 147 for 7.

It was Johnstone who got Langholm off to a brilliant start in the field, clean bowling Lau for 0 off just the fourth ball. Rumney joined F.Maninera and these two took the score to 42 before Maninera was bowled by Tony Steele in his first over. Langholm now began to toil in the field with Rumney and T.Maninera upping the run rate and taking Wigton to 92 at drinks and looking in a strong position. Dave Steele was brought back on for his second spell after drinks and made an immediate impact taking 2 wickets in the first over of his spell removing Rumney for 22 with one skied to Stevie Johnstone at mid on and then bowling Maninera two balls later for 39. His next over saw another wicket getting Wilson caught in the slips by Duncan Elliott with the score on 104. Wickets continued to fall with three in three overs with Tony Steele removing Little LBW for 9, Dave getting Dixon caught behind by Stu Duggan without adding to the score and Austin spooned a simple catch to John Bell off Tony for just 1.
McGuinnes and Pearson took the score to 113 before Dave took the final two wickets in his 10th over bowling both McGuinnes for 8 and Thomlinson for 2. With Dave Steele finishing with figures of 6 for 38, Tony Steele 3 for 13 and Stevie Johnstone 1 for 19.

A brilliant fight back from Langholm’s bowlers after Wigton making easy work of the run chase up until the halfway mark moving Langholm up to third in the table.
